Performance Phases

Two changes have been made to the performance requirements for the 2010 Regional competition. The first sets a minimum of 20 minutes for DVD and live performance round programs. This will clarify for teachers and potential applicants that programs of 20 minutes or longer in each round qualify for this competition. This may enable the participation of those who have concerto or other repertoire that may not fit the program requirements of this competition and those who simply have fewer pieces ready for performance. The second change is to increase the amount of semi-final round program that may be repeated in the final round from 10 to 15 minutes.

Those semi-finalists who do not advance to the final round will have the opportunity to participate in master classes with the judges on Sunday morning, May 23. Private lessons with the judges will be available to finalists on Sunday evening. The classes and lessons are offered without cost to the contestant.

With these changes, we hope to broaden the participation and attract young pianists at various levels of development who will benefit from this experience. In the Regional Division, twelve semi-finalists will be chosen from the DVD performances submitted with the application. The semi-final and final rounds will be live performances from memory. In the University of Wyoming Division, the preliminary and final rounds will be live performances of up to 25 and 30 minutes, respectively.

Detailed requirements for DVD and live performance rounds are given below and in the downloadable Rules and Regulations document on the Application page. Following these sections is information on the availability of practice pianos and scheduling of practice time on the performance pianos. Details of the judging procedure are given on the Judges page.
